Culture Cumbria Seminar on Cultural Tourism

Some forty Culture Cumbria stakeholders attended a seminar at the Brewery Arts Centre in  Kendal on 14th July 2009 to address issues around the development of cultural tourism in Cumbria, focusing on two questions - “What can culture do for tourism ?” and  “What can tourism do for culture?”.

“What can culture do for tourism ?” was supported with presentations from Andrew Backhouse, Heritage Tourism Executive for the North West, on Heritage Tourism in Cumbria; Andrea Runkee, Cumbria Tourism – on Adcap – the Adventure Capital programme; and Ruth McCulloch, and Kathryn Lambert from  Folly, on the Abandon Normal Devices (AND) festival of new cinema and digital culture.

“What can tourism do for culture?” was supported with presentations from Sandra Wood, Cultural Tourism Project Manager, on Cumbria Tourism’s marketing cultural tourism programme and plans for 2009/10; and from Christian Barnes, of Vista Arts, who outlined progress to date on a major Cultural Tourism development project developing new series of viewing stations in the Lake District inspired the 18th century originals “created” by Thomas West.

All presentations are available to download here, except the Thomas West project, as the project is still in development.
